As part of the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee meeting UiT The Arctic University of Norway invites to an online lecture by the esteemed Professor Nanna Mik-Meyer.

The presentation takes its starting point in the question: Why are we still seeing less than a quarter of female professors despite women make up half of students in most of social science? It highlights key factors shaping academic careers, including hierarchy between research fields, the distribution of service work, teaching, networking practices and gaming-strategies.

This presentation draws on Mik-Meyer’s qualitative study of career trajectories, performance metrics and gender dynamics in academia, conducted in collaboration with Professor Margaretha Järvinen. The study is based on approximately 200 interviews with professors and associate professors from social science faculties in Denmark.
