Internationalisation in academia, gender differences in educational attainment and career outcomes, and inclusion of Norwegian-born researchers with immigrant parents were among the topics that engaged readers the most in 2025.

Top five of our news articles in English last year reveal an interest in how gender, social background, nationality and minority background shape educational choices, academic careers and everyday working life in research and higher education.

1. International researchers are paving the way to greater diversity

Does a greater number of foreign researchers in Norwegian academia create a more inclusive work environment for everyone?

2. Similarities and differences in German and Norwegian academia

PhD fellows and postdocs in Norway spend more time on research than their German colleagues. This time use survey could give us an idea of why.

3. Women benefit the most from taking higher education

4. Minorities in academia: “Being Norwegian is not a buffer against discrimination”

“You’re very visible when you’re a minority. Being noticed can be a good thing in academia, but as soon as you make a mistake, the flipside of hyper-visibility comes to the fore,” says researcher Marjan Nadim.

5. Debunking the myth that researchers work 24/7

Some give it their all, while others leave academia. Most researchers, however, favour the middle ground. A new study shows how researchers respond to the ideal of working around the clock.
