Committee for Gender Balance and Diversity in Research (KIF) 2022–2025

The Committee shall support and give recommendations regarding measures that promote the integration of gender balance and diversity activities at universities, university colleges and research institutes.

The Committee shall seek to raise the overall level of awareness of issues related to diversity, inclusion and harassment at higher education and research institutions. This includes increased knowledge about how gender, social and ethnic background affect critical transitions in a research career; from the path into research to senior-level and leadership positions.

The sixth KIF committee has been appointed to serve from 1 January 2022 to 31 December 2025. It is chaired by Dean Ragnhild Hennum.

Actors and institutions in the higher education sector and research institute sector, as well as the ministries, the Norwegian Directorate for Higher Education and Skills, and the Research Council of Norway may request assistance and advice from the Committee.

The Committee shall have an observer from the Ministry of Education and Research. In addition, the Committee may have an observer from the Norwegian Directorate for Higher Education and Skills.

The current working period of the committee lasts until 31.12.2025. Representatives from the National Union of Students in Norway, the Young Academy of Norway and the Association of Doctoral Organizations in Norway are appointed for two years at a time.

The committee's secretariat is based at the Universities Norway (UHR).

Changes

Torjer Olsen is deputy chair from June 2024. Former deputy chair Ole Jacob Sending continues as a member in the KIF Committee.
Members of the National Union of Students in Norway was changed. Members from 2024 are: Ninni Eliassen Zinober and Rebecca Riegels Holbye (deputy).
Members from The Young Academy of Norway was changed. Members from 2024 are: Are Skeie Hermansen and Marte E. S. Haaland (deputy). New deputy for 2024–2025 is Anna Drożdżowicz. Marte E. S. Haaland is on leave.
Members from the Association of Doctoral Organizations in Norway was changed. Members from 2023 are: Nicolas Gibney and Ole Kristian Dyskeland (deputy).

About the KIF Committee and Kifinfo

The KIF Committee was launched in 2004. The first committees was named Committee for Mainstreaming – Women in Science.

The third committee changed its name to the Committee for Gender Balance in Research.

The fourth committee was given a new mandate and a new name: the Committee for Gender Balance and Diversity in Research.
