The KIF committee provides support and recommendations on measures contributing to gender balance and diversity in the Norwegian research sector. In the current working period, diversity is defined as ethnic diversity. The purpose of the committee’s work is two-fold:

  1. To contribute to gender balance and diversity among employees in the Norwegian research sector.
  2. To contribute to working with diversity perspectives, among these gender perspectives, in research.

Launched in 2004, the KIF committee completed four terms in 2017. The third committee changed its name from the Committee for Mainstreaming – Women in Science to the Committee for Gender Balance in Research. Rice, The fourth committee was given an expanded mandate in 2014. The mandate requires the committee to prioritize ethnic diversity in research, in addition to gender equality.

The Committee will support and provide recommendations on measures that can contribute to the mainstreaming of the gender equality, gender balance and diversity efforts at the institutions within the university and college sector as well as the research institute sector. The committee will also contribute to an overall awareness-raising on gender balance and diversity in academia.
